- We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Bar Manager
Job overview:
- The role of the Assistant Manager is to support the general manager to organise and run the Mitre in Knaresborough which will have bar and kitchen employees. Your job will be highly important in ensuring the team meets its goals of efficiency and customer satisfaction. You should be skilled at organising, solving problems with Interpersonal and mediation skills as you’ll often be acting as a liaison between managers, employees and customers.
Job Purpose:
- Make sure the venue operates effectively and that we keep our customer and employees happy.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Highlight any gaps in resource and work with the Bar manager on recruiting for these gaps
- Assist the Bar Manager in planning and implementing strategies to attract customers
- Assess the needs of the business and communicate with the bar manager for when they are producing rotas in line with these needs on a rolling basis, support with producing rotas when required
- Running the shift making sure the best quality of service available to the customer.
- Evaluate employee performance and identify hiring and training needs
- Supervise and motivate staff to perform their best
- Coach and support new and existing bar staff
- Implement Training programs and techniques to help develop the team
- Communicate with various areas of the business
- Handle complaints from customers
- Conduct regular audits to ensure the venue is functional and presentable
- Make sure all employees adhere to company’s policies and guidelines
- Act as our venue representative and set an example for our staff
- Monitor Service, Flexing resource where required
- Actively post on social media about the venue to generate business and a following
- Keep up to date with licensing legislation and ensure employees are following (including challenge 25 policy)
- Proactive stance on health and safety in the workplace, accidents reported and overseen
- Ensure any maintenance issues are reported immediately
- Stock Control – Support with Conducting weekly/monthly stock takes, ensure stock rotation and replenish stock as efficiently as possible (i.e. using delivery services where appropriate). All Stock must be input into the till so that stock can be monitored. Any deliveries should be checked against the order form before accepting. Any stock needs to be input correctly into the system before sale.
- Cellar Management – Preparation of Beer for Dispense and ensure good condition of all beers. Line cleaning to be completed weekly Sunday evenings after close. Adhere to industry standard Cellar Management Practice. Ensure all empty kegs and casks are disposed of properly
- Hygiene – Support Manager for ensuring hygiene of venue and associated facilities (Toilet checks/maintenance etc) is of a high standard and any issues with Facilities should be reported to appropriate person to fix.
- Open And Close of Venue – When Manager not in Overall responsibility for bars including cleanliness and all actions completed on checklists, Liaise with cleaners on any issues
- Budget & Profit – Adhere to budgets and monitor/manage losses and staff performance to drive profitability
- Events – Work with the events manager to fulfill all event requirements in line with set process.

Required Qualifications/Experience
Essential:
- A good standard of GCSE education
- Good knowledge of the Craft Beer sector and the on and off trade
- A good understanding of Cellar Management and Beer Dispense
- Customer service experience
- Leadership and organisational abilities
- Good interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving attitude
- Flexibility to work in shifts
Desired:
- Personal Alcohol License
- 2 years+ experience working in a bars of the on trade
Hours of Work & Holiday Entitlement:
- 40 hours per week, this may be some weeks more than 40 hours and some less(Mon-Sun, sometimes inclusive of evenings)
- Holidays – 28 days, which includes all statutory / public holidays (time in lieu will be offered where required to work a bank holiday
Compensation & Benefits:
- Assistant Manager Base Salary – £27,477.00
