We’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Gift Shop Assistant to join our team at our Tap Room & Beer Hall Gift Shop in the heart of York city centre.
This is a part-time position of approximately 15–16 hours per week, primarily covering weekday daytime and evening shifts, with some weekend work required. We’re looking for someone with a flexible approach to working hours who is happy to provide additional cover or overtime when required.
The Role
As a Gift Shop Assistant, you’ll be one of the first points of contact for customers visiting our shop. You’ll help customers find the right beers and merchandise, keep the shop looking its best, and make sure orders are packed and dispatched accurately.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, efficient and professional service.
- Helping customers choose from our range of beers, merchandise and gifts, using your product knowledge to make recommendations.
- Providing an excellent customer experience at all times.
- Keeping displays fully stocked, tidy and looking their best.
- Receiving, checking and putting away stock deliveries.
- Accurately picking and packing online orders ready for dispatch.
- Assisting the Venue Manager with stock management and ordering.
- Helping to maintain a clean, organised and welcoming shop environment.
- Supporting the wider venue team when required.
Experience & Skills
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in a customer-facing role (preferred).
- Has an interest in craft beer — previous experience or knowledge of the industry would be an advantage.
- Has excellent communication skills and is confident speaking with customers.
- Is friendly, approachable and able to provide a consistently high level of customer service.
- Is reliable, organised and able to work independently.
- Has a positive attitude and takes pride in creating a welcoming environment.
- Is flexible and willing to work a mixture of weekday and occasional weekend shifts.
